birdsong patterns: lakeshore halter dress pattern

Meet Birdsong Patterns' newest pattern: the Lakeshore Halter Dress! I was privileged to be able to test this pattern for knits before it's release, and I have to tell you...it's a winner! Here's why:

Firt of all, the instructions. They are amazingly well written. Deanna, the owner of Birdsong Patterns, puts an amazing amount of effort into helping you become comfortable sewing with knits before you even begin to stitch! And if your knit comfort level is already well established, her instructions are set up and numbered so that you can get right to the nitty gritty, no unnecessary repeat of info to dig through first. From beginner to professional; from zig zag stitch to serger. The instructions are simple, elegant, and clear.

Then, you have the pattern. This pattern is simple to print, easy to put together, and well marked. I am so thankful to PDF pattern makers who hand me a pattern that has pieces well marked. That way, there's no question at all as to what piece goes where when you turn your back and your toddler "rearranges" everything you've so carefully laid out. Birdsong Patterns are perfect for such an occasion. (Or, you know, if you just want well documented pattern pieces without the toddler.)

Finally, the dress. Oh, this beautiful dress! The swoon factor for every little girl is, of course, the twirl. The swoon factor for every mommy (and I have it on good authority, daddies too) is the coverage. This dress is both stylish and trendy without sacrificing coverage for your child. The back bodice can be personally adjusted before stitching for your child's perfect fit, and I love how the halter covers so thoroughly across the top and under the arms. And, did I mention that twirl? (Okay, it's a mommy-swoon thing, too!)

I highly recommend adding this dress (and honestly, any other Birdsong Pattern) to your collection. If you do so by the end of July 2, you'll get 15% off the list price, too! Then, grab your favorite knit, your Lakeshore Halter Dress pattern, and get stitching. You won't regret it!

  2. Your bluebird is growing up so fast! She looks absolutely beautiful in her dress, and I love the unexpected combination of the orange with the zebra (instead of the usual hot pink, etc). And the headband, *swoon*. You are so talented Nicky!!
